What we do

What can be protected as a trademark?

Names, logos, slogans, colours and even sounds – anything that distinguishes your goods and services from those of competitors.

Products & packaging

Products & packaging

A drinks producer protects product name and label as an EU trademark before the launch – and can stop look-alikes on the shelf.

Online shops & apps

Online shops & apps

A start-up secures its app name in classes 9, 35 and 42 and blocks similar names in the app stores.

Restaurants & retail

Restaurants & retail

Customs inspecting counterfeit goods
Typical case

Counterfeits at the border

Counterfeit goods often arrive in small parcels from outside the EU. With a registered trademark and an application for customs action, German customs can detain fakes before they reach the market.

Good to know: Without a registered right, no customs application is possible.

    FAQ

    Short answers

Do I need a German representative?

Applicants without a seat in the EU need a representative before the DPMA and the EUIPO. We act as your representative.

    What are the official fees?

DPMA: €290 for up to three classes (online). EUIPO: €850 for one class, €50 for the second and €150 for each further class.

    How long does protection last?

Ten years from the filing date, renewable indefinitely.

Does the office check for similar marks?

No – earlier rights are not examined ex officio. A clearance search before filing is strongly recommended.
